Today is the international day of clean air for blue skies. It is celebrated in the UN system of international and world days on September 7. It was established by the UN General Assembly in 2019. The international day of clean air for blue skies was created to draw public attention to the problem of air pollution, which affects not only human health, but also the climate of the planet.

In Kazakhstan, RSE "Kazhydromet" is the national operator of state monitoring of the state of the environment, including air quality.

To date, air quality monitoring in Kazakhstan is carried out in 45 localities at 140 observation posts and with the help of 15 mobile laboratories. Up to 36 air quality indicators are determined.

To ensure public access to environmental information, RSE "Kazhydromet" has launched the AirKz mobile app and an Interactive map (maps.hydromet.kz), which allow you to get online information about the state of atmospheric air not only for cities, but also for each post of localities. The information is updated hourly.

In addition, RSE "Kazhydromet" actively cooperates with public organizations and eco-activists in order to improve monitoring. For example, the Association of environmental organizations, the Association of practicing ecologists, and many others.

From the projects of RSE "Kazhydromet" together with the Finnish meteorological Institute, it adapts the mesoscale model of the forecast of atmospheric air quality SILAM, with a forecast for 48 hours of the main parameters of air quality PM2.5, PM10, ozone, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, carbon monoxide. Preparations are being made for the transition to an assessment of atmospheric air quality based on the international atmospheric quality Index (AQI).
