In 2026, the Irgiz meteorological station celebrates the 170th anniversary of the start of weather observations. The history of the station began in 1856 in the Uralsky Fortification. Since 1870, it has been called the Irgiz Meteorological Station.
Over the course of a century and a half, the station has come a long way: its location has changed, observation methods have been improved, and equipment has been updated. Despite interruptions in work during certain historical periods, meteorological observations were resumed on August 3, 1922 and continue to the present day.
The station is located in the village of Irgiz, Aktobe region, in the valley of the Irgiz River, in an area with a characteristic semi-desert landscape. The natural features of the region make regular weather observations important for studying the climatic conditions of this area.
On the occasion of the 170th anniversary, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to all employees of the station for their conscientious work, long-term dedication to the profession, responsibility and contribution to the development of the hydrometeorological service of Kazakhstan. Thanks to the professionalism and daily work of specialists, the continuity of generations is preserved and the important work of weather monitoring continues.       Today, the Irgiz weather station continues to conduct regular observations of weather conditions. The collected data helps to track changes in meteorological indicators and form long-term series of observations necessary for studying the climate of the region.
