The water level in the Caspian Sea is unstable. Over the past 3,000 years, it has changed by about 15 meters. The northern part of this sea freezes in winter and is covered with ice.
RSE "Kazhydromet" makes a weekly forecast of the Caspian Sea level. In the Middle Caspian Sea, the sea level fluctuation is expected to be around minus 28.38 m, with a rise to a maximum of minus 28.01 m and a decline to a minimum of minus 28.81 m.
According to the operational data of the sea stations and posts of Kazhydromet: Fort Shevchenko, Aktau, Fetisovo and Roshydromet (MG Makhachkala), the average level of the Caspian Sea, in its deep-water part, corresponded to minus 28.34 m, the maximum - minus 28.03 m, the minimum - minus 28.81 m.
