The Caspian Sea is located at the junction of Asia and Europe and has a serious impact on the local climate. Due to the unstable water level, the outlines of the Caspian Sea are constantly changing.
RSE "Kazhydromet" makes a weekly forecast of the level of the Caspian Sea. In the Middle Caspian Sea, the sea level fluctuation is expected to be around minus 28.28 m, with a rise to a maximum of minus 27.94 m and a decline to a minimum of minus 28.82 m.
The calculated characteristics were obtained using the MIKE 21 hydrodynamic module of the Danish Hydraulic Institute, adapted in the RSE "Kazhydromet" to the conditions of the Caspian Sea. The calculation used data from sea level observations and a numerical forecast of the baric field for 24-120 hours.
The actual state of the water surface of the Caspian Sea for the period from January 21-27, 2021 corresponds to the previous weekly forecast. The visual coastline of the largest closed reservoir is shown in the satellite image for January 25, 2021. A snapshot of the NASA project.
