The Asian Development Bank, together with the Department of Green Economy of Almaty and Kazhydromet, are joining forces to improve monitoring of atmospheric air quality in Almaty

On May 28, 2021, RSE "Kazhydromet", the Asian Development Bank (hereinafter – ADB) and the Department of Green Economy of the City of Almaty signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
The subject of the Memorandum is cooperation between the Parties within the framework of regional technical assistance in support of the Almaty-Bishkek Economic Corridor.
Within 2 years, the ADB will purchase 50 units of certified air quality measurement devices and install them on the territory of Almaty and its suburban areas.
The devices will be equipped with sensors for measuring fine particles of 2.5 microns (PM2.5), 10 microns (PM10) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), including we note that the sensors meet the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of technical regulation and ensuring the uniformity of measurements.
The implementation of the project is designed for 2 years, Kazhydromet, in turn, participates as a national operator of state environmental monitoring, recommends the installation sites of this equipment, taking into account the wind direction and the existing network in the territory of Almaty, and will integrate data from the ADB sensors into the AirKz mobile application and the interactive map of the RSE Kazhydromet.
In addition, the sensors of ECOSERVICE , NCOC, Atyrau ANPZ and Alexandrov eco-activist are already integrated into the existing network of Kazhydromet, including as the sensors of NARKHOZ University are installed,there is an agreement on their integration/integration is planned.
