According to Kazhydromet specialists, in December 2025, weather conditions were recorded in Kazakhstan, as a result of which a number of temperature records were broken, which have been maintained for 47 years — since 1978.
In general, the weather conditions in December were unstable: frosts alternated with thaws, there were sharp fluctuations in air temperature and an uneven distribution of precipitation. At the beginning of the month, relatively warm weather remained in most of the country, close to November. The formation of weather conditions occurred under the influence of active cyclonic activity, accompanied by precipitation in the form of snow and rain, snowstorms, fogs and increased winds were observed in some places.
During the month, precipitation fell in a number of regions, close to or exceeding the monthly norm. So, on December 9, 14 mm of precipitation fell at the Zholboldy weather station (Pavlodar region) at a monthly rate of 15 mm, on December 10 at the Narynkol weather station (Almaty region) — 13 mm, which corresponds to the monthly rate, and on December 11, 20 mm fell at the Sam weather station (Mangystau region) at a rate of 10 mm.
At the same time, high and sometimes record temperatures were recorded in some regions of the country. So, on December 1, the previous temperature maxima were updated at the weather stations Kostanay and Petropavlovsk. In the period from December 2 to December 4, the records of the daily maximum air temperature were updated at the Zhezkazgan weather station.
From December 8 to December 12, in most of the territory of Kazakhstan, under the influence of the northern anticyclone from the regions of Novaya Zemlya Island, there was a sharp drop in air temperature — from 0...-5 °C to -18...-26 °C, which marked the onset of winter weather.
In the second half of the month, on some days, warm air masses were carried out from the regions of Asia, which again led to an increase in air temperature and the setting of new temperature records. The weather was especially warm at the end of the month, including on December 29-31, when record values were recorded in Turkestan, Karaganda, East Kazakhstan regions, as well as in the cities of Astana and Zhezkazgan.
In general, the average air temperature in December in most of the republic exceeded the climatic norm by 1-4 °C. The amount of precipitation in most regions exceeded the norm by 1.3–6 times, while in some parts of the country it was observed near or less than normal.
In Astana, the average monthly air temperature in December was -8 °C, which is 4 °C higher than the climatic norm. The maximum air temperature (+2.8 °C) was recorded on December 30, the minimum (-23.6 °C) — on December 27. 49 mm of precipitation fell during the month, which is almost twice the monthly norm.
RSE Kazhydromet continues to monitor climate change and inform the public and government agencies about the nature and trends of weather conditions in the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
