Brief history of the first meteorological observations in Atyrau region
Weather stations in Atyrau and Kulsary, as well as in Makhambet, Ganyushkino, Sagiz, Peshnoy, Inder, Karabau, and Novy Ushtogan have been observing since 1933-1970.
The integrated environmental monitoring laboratory carries out chemical and analytical studies of atmospheric air samples in Atyrau and Atyrau region, precipitation, surface waters of the Ural river, Sharonov river, Kigach river, Emba river, and sea waters, bottom sediments of the Northern Caspian sea.
The Atyrau region branch conducts round-the-clock continuous observations at 11 operating weather stations: Atyrau, Makhambet, Peshnoy, Sagiz, Kulsary, Karabau, Inderborsky, Ganyushkino and Novy Ushtagan, and 2 AMS: Makat and Isatay. All stations of category II. Atyrau, Ganyushkino, Novy Ushtagan, Makat and Isatay stations are stations for international exchange of observations. Peshnoy, Karabau and Novy Ushtogan stations are hard-to-reach stations.
Hydrological observations – there are 12 hydrological posts on the territory of Atyrau region, including 1 water-measuring post, 8 runoff posts, and 3 sea posts. Hydrological posts perform standard observations of water level and temperature, ice regime, and water flow.
Hydrological posts on the Ural river have a long series of observations: the Ural river hydropost-Atyrau has been operating since 1915, the Ural river –p.Makhambet since 1932
